Buddy's Cannabis' is a recreational cannabis store in Renton, WA. The brand's namesake, Buddy Harlow, was a well known bass player on Broadway, and a highly sought after session player in the smoky night clubs of Harlem in the 1920s. Buddy was also known to puff a reefer between sets. Borrowing heavily from the Jazz Age aesthetic, we created a brand identity with a backbeat to resonate with a more sophisticated clientele. I drew the portrait of Buddy from photographs supplied by the his grandson. We repurposed the art throughout the store on signage, on the shelf, and on a host of jazzy branded merchandise. Every step of the way from an empty building to launch, we enjoyed collaborating with Buddy’s team to ensure that the brand was inseparable from a remarkable shopping experience. For several years running, Buddy's continues to win nearly every "Best Of" contest in the PNW.
